Deputy Health Minister Begins MMARP Assessment Tour of Eastern Region

Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu‑Danquah, has commenced a two‑day assessment tour of the Eastern Region under the Maternal Mortality Action and Response Program (MMARP), reaffirming government’s commitment to safer motherhood.

Speaking at a stakeholder engagement at the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, Dr. Ayensu‑Danquah declared: “We owe every mother a safe pregnancy and delivery.” She said the tour was aimed at identifying practical interventions to improve maternal health services and accelerate the reduction of maternal mortality across the region.

The engagement brought together representatives from the Private Health Facilities Association, the National Ambulance Service, the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), District Directors of the Ghana Health Service, and Medical Superintendents. Discussions focused on setting regional priorities, coordinating targeted interventions, and strengthening collaboration to improve maternal health outcomes.

Officials emphasized that the MMARP framework seeks to advance quality care, enhance emergency referral systems, and mobilize resources to address gaps in maternal health delivery. The Deputy Minister urged stakeholders to sustain their commitment, stressing that reducing maternal deaths requires collective responsibility and continuous innovation.

The Eastern Region tour forms part of a nationwide assessment drive to ensure that maternal health interventions are responsive, effective, and aligned with Ghana’s broader health sector goals.
