The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George has held discussions with executives of Group Vivendi Africa (GVA) on the company’s plans to commercially launch high-speed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) internet services in Ghana.
Welcoming the delegation in Accra, Mr. George described GVA’s proposed pricing model as “revolutionary” and aligned with government’s agenda to expand affordable digital connectivity nationwide. He assured the company of his commitment to champion initiatives that lower data costs and broaden access to fibre infrastructure.

“I’m fully committed to initiatives that lower data costs and expand fibre connectivity across Ghana. If this offering delivers what you’ve described — high-speed, unlimited internet at competitive rates — I’ll personally champion its rollout,” the Minister emphasised.
He further pledged to engage the Minister for Energy and the management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to help resolve outstanding issues relating to infrastructure access.
The Minister urged GVA to submit a formal proposal detailing its service plan, investment model, and the specific bottlenecks requiring ministerial intervention. He also encouraged collaboration between GVA and Canal+ to explore bundling broadband access with premium content streaming, a move he said could transform Ghana’s pay-TV and internet landscape.

Mr. George reiterated government’s readiness to support credible investors committed to strengthening Ghana’s digital infrastructure and driving inclusion.
On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of GVA, Mr. Jean-François Dubois, outlined the company’s vision to deliver affordable, unlimited broadband connectivity to Ghanaian households. He noted that GVA, a subsidiary of the Canal+ Group, currently operates in nine African countries and intends to replicate its mass-market fibre model in Ghana, beginning with Accra and Kumasi.
Mr. Dubois expressed optimism that the initiative would contribute significantly to Ghana’s digital transformation agenda and provide households with reliable, high-speed internet at competitive rates.
