Bawumia Condemns Violence at Polling Station, Urges Swift Action from President Mahama

Responding to the troubling scenes of physical confrontations and chaos at a polling centre including the assault on former Fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has issued a strong warning against the growing trend of political violence.

He warned  that allowing such acts to become commonplace could steer the nation down a perilous road.

“This will be a recipe for disaster if each political party will raise its own army,” he cautioned.

The former Vice President urged President John Mahama to take decisive steps to ensure that those behind the violent incidents on Friday are promptly identified and brought to justice.

“I call on the President to take action to bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia stressed that the disturbances at Ablekuma North must not be ignored, insisting that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the citizens of Ghana will remember the events vividly.

“We will not forget what has happened. This is not the democracy we want to see.”

His comments add to mounting demands for accountability and justice following reports that armed individuals stormed a polling station, disrupted voting activities, and assaulted political figures and journalists.

Election monitors, advocacy groups, and political leaders have called on the Electoral Commission and the Ghana Police Service to respond swiftly and decisively to restore public trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions.
