AMA Hands Over Repaired Bus To Greater Accra Market Association

The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Ocloo have handed over a repaired bus to the Greater Accra Market Association, ending what officials said was more than five years of inactivity and restoring a key vehicle expected to support the association’s operations and mobility.

The bus was presented on Thursday during the association’s 65th End of Year Gathering and General Meeting in Accra, attended by the Vice President of the Republic, H.E Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, the Mayor said the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) would, as part of its commitment, provide a driver for the bus and cover its monthly running costs, adding that the vehicle’s air-conditioning system had been fixed to make it fully serviceable for official duties.

The Mayor explained that the return of the bus was a pledge he made after a December interaction with First Lady, H.E Lordina Mahama, who drew his attention to the bus being out of use for several years.

The Mayor linked the gesture to the broader guidance of President John Dramani Mahama on avoiding promises that cannot be fulfilled, noting that the Assembly considered the intervention part of practical steps being taken under the reset agenda.

In a remark, Hon. Ocloo said the presentation was being made on behalf of the First Lady and the President, and encouraged the association to rely on the Assembly for additional support when necessary.

Receiving the keys, the President of the Greater Accra Market Association, Mad. Mercy Naa Afrowa Needjan expressed appreciation to the President, the First Lady and the Mayor for fulfilling the pledge and returning the bus to active service.

She said the vehicle had been parked at a workshop for over five years and indicated that its return would significantly aid the association’s movement and work across the metropolis.
