Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson today received the Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, who paid a courtesy call on the Ministry of Finance. He was accompanied by Supreme Court Judge Justice Gabriel Pwamang, Acting Director of the Ghana School of Law Prof. Raymond Atuguba, and the Judicial Secretary. The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, was also present at the meeting.
The Chief Justice explained that the visit was to express appreciation for the Ministry’s continued support to the Judiciary. He underscored congestion in the courts as a major constraint to effective justice delivery and outlined a range of solutions currently being developed to address the challenge. He also raised concerns about the working conditions of judicial staff.
Finance Minister Forson reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Judiciary and the Ministry of Justice to tackle these issues. He disclosed that one of the measures under consideration is allowing the Judiciary to utilise 100 percent of its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to meet pressing operational needs.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Executive and the Judiciary in ensuring effective justice delivery and improving conditions within Ghana’s courts.
