Vice President H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has received the outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, who paid a farewell call at the end of his tenure.

During the meeting, Ambassador Tong Defa highlighted the remarkable growth in bilateral trade between Ghana and China, which has now reached an unprecedented US$15 billion. He also underscored the deepening cooperation between the two nations, citing the zero-tariff agreement and his role in securing two major grants for Ghana: the construction of the Aflao Market and the Catholic Science and Technology University in Damongo.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s dedicated service and contributions to strengthening Ghana-China relations. She encouraged him to carry Ghana with him in his next assignment and reaffirmed Ghana’s strong interest in expanding both trade relations and people-to-people ties.
She further conveyed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to former President John Dramani Mahama during his recent visit to China, where a new blueprint for future engagements was outlined. In her remarks, the Vice President emphasized the importance of continuously reviewing and strengthening partnerships that are mutually beneficial in a rapidly changing global environment.
Wishing Ambassador Tong Defa safe travels, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang thanked him once again for his service and looked forward to welcoming the incoming Chinese Ambassador, with a renewed commitment to advancing the shared interests of Ghana and China.
