Police Arrest 141 in Major Cybercrime Crackdown

The Ghana Police Service has arrested 141 suspected cybercriminals in a large-scale, intelligence-led operation targeting cyber-enabled financial crimes in parts of the Greater Accra Region.

According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the arrests were carried out on December 27, 2025, during a joint security operation involving the Cyber Security Authority, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service. The suspects were picked up from identified cybercrime enclaves in Tabora and Lashibi.

Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were part of coordinated cybercrime networks involved in a wide range of illegal activities, including mobile money fraud, romance scams, sextortion, business email compromise, and wire fraud. The operations allegedly targeted victims both within Ghana and abroad.

Among those arrested is a landlord whose residence was reportedly used in facilitating the cybercriminal activities.

During the operation, security agencies retrieved 38 laptop computers and 150 mobile phones believed to have been used in committing the crimes. Forensic analysis of the seized devices is currently underway to support ongoing investigations.

All 141 suspects remain in police custody and are assisting investigators. The Police Service said they will be processed and arraigned before court in accordance with the law.

The CID reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to help curb the growing menace of cyber-enabled fraud.
