Recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) within the Greater Accra Region is scheduled to restart today, Thursday, November 20, 2025. This follows a temporary suspension of the exercise at the El-Wak Sports Stadium after a stampede on Wednesday, November 12, which tragically resulted in six deaths.
In response to the incident, President John Dramani Mahama directed the GAF to pause the process in order to reassess safety protocols and redesign the screening system to avoid a repeat occurrence.
Speaking ahead of the resumption, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that strict new measures have been introduced to guarantee a secure and well-organized exercise.
A major change is the establishment of five distinct screening centres to better control the movement of applicants and ease congestion.
Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Director-General of Public Affairs at the GAF, explained that the revised system will impose strict limits on the number of candidates processed each day.
According to her, only 1,200 applicants will undergo screening daily.
“The numbers that will be at El-Wak will not be more than 1,200. This is because we are going to have two groups there, each made up of 600 potential recruits,” she clarified.
She further noted that the screening will last at least five days and will be carried out in stages, beginning with verification of applicant details and physical assessments.
“The screening is in phases, and this is phase one, where we verify their information and do the body checks,” Captain Arhin emphasized.
