The Government of Ghana has announced a new increase in the producer price of cocoa, raising it to GHS3,625 per bag of 64kg, equivalent to GHS58,000 per tonne, effective Friday, 3rd October 2025.
The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who made the announcement in Accra, said the new price represents a 12.27 percent increase, or about GHS400 more per bag, compared to the price announced in August this year.
Dr. Forson explained that the adjustment underscores government’s commitment to ensuring that cocoa farmers receive fair compensation for their hard work, while safeguarding the sustainability of the cocoa sector.
“Margins, fees, and rates to all other stakeholders, including COCOBOD, remain unchanged. This increase is solely to benefit our hardworking cocoa farmers,” he stated.
The Minister further assured that the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) will continue to roll out interventions aimed at boosting productivity and improving the welfare of farmers. These include the intensified distribution of free fertilizers (both liquid and granular), insecticides, spraying machines, fungicides, and flower inducers.
In addition, Dr. Forson disclosed that COCOBOD is on course to implement the much-anticipated Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, beginning in the 2026/27 academic year.
The announcement has been welcomed by many stakeholders in the cocoa industry, who see the move as a timely relief for farmers grappling with rising costs of production.
Ghana, the world’s second-largest cocoa producer, relies heavily on the crop for foreign exchange earnings, and government says it remains committed to policies that will protect the livelihoods of farmers while sustaining the industry for future generations.
