GRNMA Halts Planned Strike After Productive Talks with Government

The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has declared a halt to its proposed strike action following deliberations with prominent government representatives on Monday, July 15, 2025.

The Association’s President, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, stated that discussions with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance resulted in assurances from the government that were deemed acceptable by the association’s executives.

She revealed that authorities had consented to resolve the persistent request for fuel stipends. According to her, the Ministry of Finance affirmed that allocations for these stipends would be incorporated into the forthcoming mid-year fiscal review.

Nonetheless, the government emphasized that the stipends would be aligned with already sanctioned national rates.

Addressing the association’s appeal for an 8% increment in base pay, Madam Ofori-Ampofo noted that the Ministry recognized the critical nature of the issue but asked for more time to execute the adjustment.

Regarding other outstanding issues outlined in GRNMA’s collective bargaining agreement, the association acknowledged that the government had also pledged to reassess several of them during the same mid-year budget evaluation.

Given these commitments, GRNMA’s leadership expressed confidence in ongoing negotiations and progress, and has therefore decided not to pursue any strike action at this time.

Previously, the association had warned of a potential strike due to unresolved concerns about working conditions, which led to prompt engagement by government officials.
