President John Dramani Mahama has made a passionate appeal for lasting peace to prevail in Bawku and its surrounding areas.
Speaking at Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration at the Jubilee House, Mahama emphasized that the time for peace is now, urging all factions to work towards reconciliation.
The President lamented the devastating impact of the long-standing conflict on the younger generation, who deserve to grow up in a peaceful and stable environment.
“Our children deserve to inherit a peaceful land where their minds are nurtured, not where their nightmares are relived,” he stated.
Mahama called on communities to build positive memories in schools, marketplaces, and homes, ensuring that young people can grow up in an atmosphere of hope rather than fear. He envisioned a future where
“our markets flourish with trade, not tension and conflict” and “our schools echo with learning, not sorrow.”
The President’s appeal comes as Bawku continues to grapple with ethnic and chieftaincy-related violence, which has led to loss of lives and displacement of many residents.
Mahama’s commitment to peace in Bawku is not new; during his “Building Ghana Tour” in 2024, he promised to prioritize peace and development in the region.
As Ghana marks 68 years of independence, Mahama’s call for lasting peace in Bawku serves as a reminder of the need for unity and reconciliation in building a prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
