We won’t cooperate in Parliament if post-electoral violence continues – Minority

The Minority in Parliament has issued a stern warning to President John Dramani Mahama, threatening to withdraw their cooperation in Parliament if he fails to address the growing lawlessness and violence in the country following the general elections.

At the heart of the issue are allegations that some individuals affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are engaging in violent acts and destroying state property to prevent the Electoral Commission from declaring the Ablekuma North Parliamentary election results in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib addressed journalists, calling on President Mahama and the Election Security Taskforce to take immediate action to enforce law and order. Shaib emphasized that the President cannot feign ignorance about the widespread violence and lawlessness.

The Minority Caucus is demanding that the President take the following steps:

– Enforce Law and Order: Ensure that the Ghana Police Service, the IGP, and the Election Security Taskforce take decisive action to prevent further violence and lawlessness.
– Protect Electoral Commission Officials: Safeguard the well-being of EC officials and stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
– Hold Perpetrators Accountable: Bring to justice those responsible for the violence and destruction of state property.

If President Mahama fails to address these concerns, the Minority Caucus has vowed to protest through lawful means and withdraw their cooperation in Parliament.
