The Ghana Climate Centre of Excellence, led by its founder and CEO, Chauncia Wilis‑Johnson, has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.
The delegation briefed the Speaker on key initiatives of the organisation, with particular emphasis on a transformative shea and neem project aimed at empowering rural women and promoting climate resilience. The initiative integrates sustainable shea harvesting practices with carbon sequestration efforts, designed to enhance livelihoods while safeguarding Ghana’s fragile savannah ecosystems.
Commending the Centre’s innovative approach, the Speaker described the shea project as a model for inclusive development, noting its alignment with Parliament’s commitment to climate‑smart agriculture and gender empowerment. “The shea trade is not just an economic activity; it is a lifeline for many women in northern Ghana. By linking it to climate resilience, you are creating a sustainable future for our mothers, sisters, and daughters,” Mr. Bagbin remarked.
He pledged Parliament’s support for scaling up the initiative, urging the Centre to engage with relevant committees to explore policy backing and funding avenues. The Speaker further called on civil society organisations to emulate the Centre’s community‑centered approach to climate action.
The delegation expressed gratitude for the Speaker’s warm reception and reaffirmed its commitment to working with government and stakeholders to build a climate‑resilient Ghana.
