President Declares Two‑Day National Clean‑Up to Tackle Post‑Flood Risks

The President has declared Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, as national days of general cleaning under the auspices of the Post‑Flood Mitigation Committee, urging citizens to join hands in safeguarding communities from future disasters.

The initiative, themed “Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana after the floods”, seeks to mobilize government officials, security agencies, and the general public to desilt drains, sweep roads, and clean public spaces following recent floods that devastated parts of the country.

In a statement issued by the Presidency Communications Directorate, Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) were directed to collaborate with waste management companies to provide logistics such as waste trucks, gloves, shovels, and other cleaning tools at designated collection points. Assemblies are also tasked to ensure that silt and refuse are evacuated immediately to prevent them from washing back into drains.

The release emphasized the importance of addressing littering and plastic pollution, noting that collective discipline and community spirit are essential to preventing future flooding and protecting livelihoods.

Spokesperson to the President and Minister of Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, underscored the call to action: “Clean Ghana, Save Lives. Protect your home, protect your neighbour, and let us clean our beloved homeland.”

Officials say the two‑day exercise reflects government’s determination to strengthen environmental resilience and rally citizens around a shared responsibility for national cleanliness and safety.
