President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the Tema Integrated Industrial Park (TIIP), a flagship project expected to significantly boost Ghana’s industrialisation drive and strengthen its position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.
The ceremony, held in Tema, marked the beginning of what government describes as a transformative public-private partnership aimed at expanding industrial capacity, creating jobs, and integrating local businesses into regional and global value chains.
President Mahama underscored that industrialisation is now “an economic necessity rather than a policy option.” He urged project partners to fully commit to delivering a modern industrial enclave that reflects the long-term vision of Ghana’s founding leader, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who first developed the Tema industrial zone as a cornerstone of national development.
Strategic Role of TIIP
The TIIP, strategically located just seven kilometres from the Tema Port, will serve as a major engine for manufacturing, processing, logistics, and export growth. Covering 83.5 hectares, it is expected to enhance Ghana’s competitiveness under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Policy Frameworks to Support Growth
Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, described the project as a strategic investment that will position Ghana as a leading industrial hub in West Africa. She revealed that Cabinet has approved four sector-specific policies to support the park’s development and attract investors:
- Textiles and Garments Manufacturing Policy
- Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Policy
- Automotive Components Manufacturing Policy
- National Agribusiness Policy (2026–2036)
She explained that these frameworks are designed to provide regulatory certainty, attract anchor industries, and create a sustainable ecosystem for industrial growth and job creation.
Partnership and Impact
Developed through a partnership between TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC), and ARISE Integrated Industrial Platforms, the TIIP is projected to create more than 4,000 direct jobs while generating significant downstream economic activity across multiple sectors.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare reaffirmed government’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project and to maximise its long-term impact on Ghana’s industrial development agenda.
