GNFS Rescues Occupants in Adenta Building Collapse

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Thursday evening successfully carried out a search and rescue operation after a two-storey apartment building collapsed near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket at Adenta Newsite during a heavy downpour.

The Service received a distress call at 6:36 p.m., and rescue teams from National Headquarters, supported by crews from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, swiftly arrived at the scene to commence operations.

Five occupants — three adults and two children — were trapped beneath the rubble. They were identified as Margaret Kpeli, believed to be in her late 30s; Fred Atagba, also in his late 30s; Solomon; Seyeram Dzigda (child); and David Dzigda (child).

Through coordinated efforts, four victims — Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda, and David Dzigda — were rescued alive with injuries and conveyed to the 37 Military Hospital for treatment. A dog trapped in the collapsed structure was also rescued alive.

The remaining victim, Margaret Kpeli, was retrieved in an unconscious state and handed over to the Adenta District Police for preservation and further investigation. The mission concluded at 10:54 p.m.

GNFS commended the swift efforts of community members who assisted in the initial rescue and expressed appreciation to personnel from National Headquarters, Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations, the Ghana Police Service, medical staff, and all supporting agencies whose collaboration ensured the success of the operation.
