Ghana and the Philippines have agreed to deepen cooperation in trade and investment, with both countries set to promote stronger business linkages through the organization of business fora and the establishment of a chamber of commerce.
The commitment was reached during a meeting between Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The discussions focused on expanding economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for businesses and investors in both countries.
Mr. Ablakwa welcomed the decision by the Government of the Philippines to establish an embassy in Ghana later this year, describing the move as a significant milestone in the longstanding relations between the two nations.
According to the Minister, the planned diplomatic mission will further strengthen bilateral engagement and facilitate closer cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides also agreed to share ideas and expertise on labour mobility agreements, reflecting a mutual desire to enhance cooperation in the movement of skilled workers and the development of labour partnerships.
The planned opening of a Philippine embassy in Accra is expected to usher in a new phase of relations between the two countries by creating a stronger platform for diplomatic engagement and economic collaboration.
The meeting forms part of Ghana’s broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships and leverage diplomacy to promote economic growth, investment and opportunities for its citizens.
