Mahama Visits Fuveme, Assures Coastal Protection Measures

President John Dramani Mahama has visited communities in Fuveme affected by recent tidal waves, engaging residents on both immediate relief efforts and long-term coastal protection strategies.

The President noted that the area falls under the World Bank-supported West Africa Coastal Areas Management Program (WACA), a $150 million initiative designed to tackle coastal erosion and tidal wave impacts across vulnerable communities.

He assured residents that the project, currently at the design stage, will soon move into implementation. Planned interventions include the construction of sea defence systems, groynes, and ecosystem restoration measures such as coconut tree and mangrove planting.

In the interim, government is exploring immediate interventions to ease the situation. These include dredging the estuary to reduce pressure and mitigate further damage to affected communities.

President Mahama reiterated government’s commitment to protecting lives and livelihoods along Ghana’s coastline, stressing that both short-term relief and long-term resilience remain central to the national response.
