Government Reaffirms Safety Standards for Natural Health Products Under MahamaCare

The Hon. Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has underscored government’s firm commitment to ensuring safety and scientific credibility in the use of natural health products for chronic disease management under the MahamaCare initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Minister at the Natural Health & Wellness Expo 2026, the Director for Traditional and Alternative Medicine, Dr. Anastasia Yirenkyi, emphasized that natural health products can only be integrated into national healthcare delivery if they undergo rigorous scientific evaluation, are properly standardized, produced under Good Manufacturing Practices, and backed by reliable safety data approved by Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

She reaffirmed government’s readiness to partner with researchers, innovators, and manufacturers to advance evidence-based natural health solutions that can support the growing burden of chronic diseases.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah highlighted that MahamaCare presents a significant opportunity for collaboration and innovation, but stressed that only products meeting established scientific and regulatory standards will be endorsed. This, she noted, is essential to safeguard public health and build confidence in Ghana’s natural health industry.

The Deputy Minister’s remarks reflect government’s broader vision of integrating traditional and alternative medicine into mainstream healthcare in a way that prioritizes safety, credibility, and sustainability.
