Deputy Health Minister Charges 49 Pioneer Emergency Nursing Students to Prepare for Lifesaving Roles

The Deputy Minister for Health, Hon. Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has charged the maiden batch of students admitted to Ghana’s new Bachelor of Science in Emergency Nursing Programme to prepare for lifesaving roles across the country.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony of the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Training College (NMTC), Tamale, she told the 49 pioneer students: “Your clients are waiting for you at the door of every emergency room in this country.”

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah described the programme as a landmark initiative under the Government’s Reset Agenda and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares), designed to strengthen Ghana’s emergency healthcare workforce through specialized training. She emphasized that emergency nursing requires competence, compassion, and decisive action, urging the students to uphold professionalism, discipline, and ethical practice.

The Principal of NMTC-Tamale, Dr. Abdulai Abdul-Malik, welcomed the cohort and encouraged them to pursue academic excellence while cultivating integrity and compassion. He noted that the programme marks a new chapter in Ghana’s healthcare education, equipping nurses with the skills to respond effectively to emergencies and save lives.

This pioneering class is expected to set the standard for future cohorts, with their training aimed at bolstering Ghana’s preparedness for medical emergencies nationwide.
