In a bold show of unity, 12 countries, many from the Global South, have launched coordinated legal, economic, and diplomatic actions to push Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza, citing alleged breaches of international law.
Meeting at a summit in Bogotá, Colombia, hosted by President Gustavo Petro, representatives reaffirmed their commitment to enforcing international legal rulings and upholding human rights in the wake of Israel’s ongoing campaign.
The summit strengthened the resolve of the Hague Group, a bloc of nations including South Africa, Colombia, Malaysia, and others formed in January 2025 to pressure Israel through trade restrictions and legal action.
Key measures include backing ICC arrest warrants for Israeli leaders under the Rome Statute and imposing restrictions such as halting arms transfers and denying port access to Israeli military ships or those carrying potential war materials.
