Wontumi Farms, Directors Charged Over GH₵24m EXIM Bank Loan Fraud

The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has announced that Wontumi Farms and its directors will face prosecution for alleged financial crimes amounting to more than GH₵24.2 million.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, Dr. Ayine revealed that the decision follows investigations conducted by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

“In the circumstances, in the face of the evidence we have gathered in this investigation, thoroughly conducted by the Economic and Organized Crime Office, we have made the decision to prosecute Wontumi Farms and its directors with defrauding by false pretenses, forgery, and causing financial loss to the state in the sum of 24,255,735 Ghana cedis,” he stated.

Dr. Ayine explained that the figure represents both the principal sum and accrued interest, noting that the amount could rise further by the time charges are filed after the Christmas break, as interest continues to compound.

The case is expected to be one of the most high-profile prosecutions in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and safeguard public funds.
