Vice President Visits Roads Ministry, Highlights Big Push Infrastructure Gains

The Vice President has paid an official working visit to the Ministry of Roads and Highways, where significant progress under the government’s Big Push Infrastructure Programme was outlined.

Hon. Kwame Agbodza, Minister of Roads and Highways, briefed the Vice President on key achievements, including the award of 50 projects covering 1,144 kilometers nationwide. He emphasized that the programme is designed to restore critical roads, open economic corridors, create jobs, and reduce the cost of doing business.

The Minister also announced that the newly established Road Maintenance Trust Fund has disbursed about GHS 1 billion to contractors across the country after validating outstanding debts. This intervention, he noted, has stabilized the sector and ensured continuity of essential road works.

Highlighting future projects, Mr. Agbodza revealed that the Accra-Kumasi Expressway will feature eight major interchanges, three river bridges, four full-service rest areas, and emergency response services. He described the project as a transformative corridor that will boost trade and connectivity between the southern and northern parts of Ghana.

The Vice President commended the Ministry’s efforts, stressing that infrastructure remains central to Ghana’s economic growth agenda. He reiterated government’s commitment to delivering quality roads that enhance mobility, reduce travel time, and support national development.

This visit underscores the administration’s focus on infrastructure as a driver of economic opportunity, with road projects positioned as a cornerstone of the Big Push initiative.
