Vice President Launches 24-Hour Sanitation Drive, Urges Collective Governance

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has commended the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs for its central role in advancing decentralization and responsive governance, stressing that social governance is essential for fostering peace and improving the daily lives of Ghanaians.

The Vice President made the remarks during a visit to the Ministry, where she engaged with leadership and staff to appreciate progress in service delivery and institutional strengthening.

During the meeting, Minister Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim announced the launch of National Sanitation Day work plans, as part of preparations to roll out a 24-hour sanitation programme aimed at improving public hygiene and sanitation nationwide. He noted that the initiative has already generated renewed confidence among investors and development partners, citing the growing stability and direction under the current administration.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the Ministry’s pivotal role in resetting the decentralization agenda and strengthening institutions. “The Ministry is truly at the heart of government. Decentralization must be used as a tool to enhance the daily lives of our people,” she emphasized.

She further expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s efforts to ensure that public funds, particularly District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) disbursements, are utilized for their rightful purposes in accountable and beneficial ways. The Vice President described the engagement as an opportunity not only to encourage the Ministry but also to listen, support, and strengthen collective resolve to deliver better outcomes for communities.

Concluding her remarks, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang reiterated that governance is a collective responsibility. “Government does not work alone, and we must continue to treat every stakeholder, at every level, with the respect they deserve,” she said.
