Former Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has officially declared her intention to contest the position of General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a Facebook post shared on her birthday, the Ablekuma West MP reflected on the party’s recent internal challenges, describing them as a “stormy face-off” that left members “bruised” and egos “battered.” She, however, expressed confidence that the NPP’s tradition of resilience would see it through.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful likened the party’s current state to a period of “self-introspection and diagnosis” necessary for re-organisation. She assured supporters that the NPP would “rise like the Phoenix” to reclaim its strength and unity ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Taking aim at the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), she accused the administration of misleading Ghanaians with “lofty promises” and described it as an “accident-of-a-government.” She pledged that the NPP would restore public confidence and position itself as the true vehicle for national development.
“As your next General Secretary, I am prepared to join you on this collective journey to rescue our beloved country,” she wrote, calling on party faithful across polling stations, constituencies, and regions to rally behind her.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful emphasised that unity within the NPP was the only “dose” needed to return the party to power, adding that with “God on our side and the collective will of the Ghanaian people, we shall overcome.”
Her declaration sets the stage for what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the NPP’s top administrative position as the party begins preparations towards the 2028 elections.
