Two Suspects in Gold Smuggling Case Arrested, Two Still on the Run

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to an alleged gold smuggling syndicate, while two others remain at large.

The arrested individuals, Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, were among four persons earlier declared wanted in connection with ongoing criminal proceedings involving charges of gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold, and transporting gold without a license, among other offenses.

According to GoldBod, both men voluntarily surrendered to authorities and have since been arraigned before the High Court. They are facing prosecution for their alleged roles in the illicit gold trade.

The court has granted them bail; however, the conditions are yet to be satisfied. As a result, the two remain in lawful custody until their bail terms are fulfilled and proceedings continue.

Meanwhile, the two other wanted suspects  Mohammed Afsal Puthalan and Mohammed Refeeq Nandoli, also known as Salam are still on the run. Authorities have urged the public to assist by providing credible information on their whereabouts to the Ghana Police Service or GoldBod.

A bounty of One Million Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000,000) has been placed on each of the fugitives, with the reward remaining active for any information that leads to their arrest.

GoldBod reiterated its commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to dismantle illegal gold smuggling networks and safeguard Ghana’s mineral resources.
