The Member of Parliament for Tolon and First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, requesting an update on the investigation into the tragic helicopter crash of August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of eight high-ranking government and military officials.
In a letter dated October 27, 2025, Mr. Iddrisu invoked Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), both of which guarantee citizens the right to access information of public interest.
The fatal crash, which occurred two months ago, led to the deaths of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
Following the incident, government announced on August 25 that a committee of inquiry had been constituted to investigate the cause of the crash, with a promise to release its findings within 30 days. However, no report or update has since been made public.
In his petition, Mr. Iddrisu stated: “In light of the time elapsed and the significant public concern surrounding this tragedy, I respectfully request a copy of the investigative report or an official update. The public deserves to know the circumstances that led to the loss of such distinguished figures and dedicated public servants.”
He further urged that if the final report is not yet ready, an interim update should be provided to reassure the public of the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“This will not only keep citizens informed but also demonstrate the government’s commitment to openness during this difficult period,” Mr. Iddrisu added.
The Tolon MP concluded his letter by expressing hope for a timely response in accordance with the provisions of the law.
