Ten Arrested for Creating Fake Online Food Delivery Platforms

The Ghana Police Service, through the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has arrested ten suspects for allegedly creating fake online food delivery platforms to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

According to a police statement issued in Accra and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, the suspects were involved in an elaborate scheme in which they created websites and social media pages impersonating well-known food brands such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.

“The suspects directed victims to make advance payments via mobile money for food they never received,” the statement said.

The initial six suspects — identified as Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were arrested during a targeted operation on October 1, 2025, at Sogakope in the Volta Region. The arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering by the Cybercrime Unit.

Further investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects — Elijah Sotama Etse (alias Pop Smoke and described by police as the syndicate leader), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli — from their hideout at Haatso in Accra on October 12, 2025.

Police say the suspects also gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money wallets and bank accounts under the guise of assisting them with payments, withdrawing funds fraudulently.

“Twelve mobile phones and other digital devices believed to have been used in the fraudulent activities have been retrieved and are undergoing forensic examination,” the statement added.

All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service has urged members of the public who may have fallen victim to this scheme to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
