President John Dramani Mahama has announced the launch of major water infrastructure projects aimed at resolving the persistent water shortages in the Northern Region.
Among these initiatives are the Bimbilla Town Water System and the Yendi Water Supply System, which will provide thousands of residents with clean, reliable water access.
During a visit to Yendi, Mahama assured locals that his administration is committed to completing stalled projects, particularly the $30 million Yendi Water Supply Project, which began in July 2020 but remains unfinished.
He criticized the lack of progress, emphasizing that under his leadership, the project will be fully implemented to improve sanitation and public health.
The President also highlighted broader efforts to enhance water security in the Northern Region, including planned upgrades to Tamale’s water distribution network and the construction of a new hospital for Yendi.
Community leaders, including Yaa Naa Abukari II, welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major relief for thousands who have struggled with water shortages for years.
The announcement comes as Ghana faces climate-related water challenges, with many rural communities experiencing droughts and unreliable water supplies.
Stakeholders have urged the government to invest in long-term solutions, including dam rehabilitation, water purification systems, and improved resource management.
