President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the expanded Tema Port, marking the completion of phases one and two of the landmark project.
The expansion, delivered through a public–private partnership between Meridian Port Services (MPS), APM Terminals, and the Ghana Ports & Harbours Authority, was privately funded. President Mahama described the collaboration as a clear demonstration of Ghana’s ability to leverage private capital for national development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President hailed the Tema Port expansion as “one of the most ambitious infrastructure developments in Africa’s maritime sector.” He emphasized that Ghana is positioning itself as the gateway to West Africa’s maritime industry, adding: “This project is more than a Ghanaian achievement. It is an African statement.”
With its enhanced capacity and advanced systems, the expanded Tema Port is now the preferred first-call terminal for major shipping lines entering the Gulf of Guinea. Officials say the development will boost trade competitiveness, create jobs, and strengthen Ghana’s role as a regional hub for maritime commerce.
