Police Seize Narcotics, Arrest Suspects in Upper West

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking, intercepting large consignments of suspected narcotics and arresting several suspects across the region.

In the past four weeks, coordinated patrols and intelligence-led operations have led to seizures in districts including Lawra, Nadowli-Kaleo, Wa Municipality, and Lambussie. Police reports indicate that a total of 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight assorted consignments of substances suspected to be Indian hemp were confiscated.

On April 3, 2026, officers intercepted a taxi in Eremon, Lawra District, uncovering 140 compressed slabs of the substance. Two suspects, Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were arrested. Earlier, on April 1, police at the Wa-Loho barrier retrieved 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus en route to Jirapa, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee.

Authorities noted that most of the intercepted consignments were northbound, heading toward Hamile for delivery. The suspects are currently facing prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been impounded.

Regional Police Commander Mr. Francis cautioned transport owners and unions against allowing their vehicles to be used for couriering illicit drugs, warning that offenders risk forfeiture of their vehicles in addition to prosecution.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug-related crimes, assuring the public of continued efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment in the Upper West Region.
