The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern reminder to motorists that the unauthorized installation and use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, and other emergency warning devices remain prohibited under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180).
In a statement released on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the Service cautioned that misuse of such devices poses significant risks to public safety, often creating panic among road users and fueling traffic indiscipline. Regulation 74 of L.I. 2180 restricts the use of these devices to vehicles with lawful authority, including emergency services.

The Police disclosed that ongoing nationwide enforcement operations have already led to the arrest of several offenders. Authorities have urged all individuals who have unlawfully fitted these devices on their vehicles to remove them immediately.
“The Ghana Police Service will continue to intensify the enforcement exercise to arrest offenders, promote safety, order, and discipline on the nation’s roads,” the release signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Richmond Mensah, Staff Officer at the Public Affairs Directorate, stated.
The Service emphasized its commitment to ensuring discipline on Ghana’s roads, warning that offenders will face the full rigors of the law.
