Parliament Reconvenes Today

The Parliament of Ghana resumes sitting today, ushering in the Third Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The meeting, which is expected to span several weeks, will see Members of Parliament (MPs) engage in critical legislative business, including the presentation and subsequent approval of the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy. The budget, which will be laid before the House by the Minister for Finance, is anticipated to outline government’s fiscal direction and development priorities for the coming year.

In addition to the budget deliberations, MPs will consider a number of bills and committee reports that have been tabled for discussion. These include proposed amendments to existing legislation and new bills aimed at strengthening governance, enhancing public accountability, and promoting socio-economic development.

The Third Meeting will also provide a platform for Parliament to exercise its oversight mandate, with MPs expected to scrutinize government expenditure, assess the implementation of past budgetary allocations, and review the performance of various ministries, departments, and agencies.

Leadership of the House has urged members to approach proceedings with diligence and patriotism, stressing the importance of the session in shaping national policy and ensuring transparency in governance.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, is expected to deliver a formal opening address to set the tone for the meeting and outline key expectations for the legislative calendar.

Parliamentary sittings are scheduled to continue until mid-December, barring any unforeseen adjournments.
