Parliament Completes Full House with Swearing-in of Two New MPs

Ghana’s Parliament has attained its full complement of 276 Members following the swearing-in of two newly elected legislators from the Akwatia and Tamale Central constituencies.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, on Tuesday administered the oath of office to Hon. Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, and Hon. Professor Alidu Seidu Mahama, Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.

Their induction followed the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission (EC) after successful bye-elections in the two constituencies.

In a brief ceremony in the Chamber, the Speaker presented copies of the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament to the new MPs, urging them to uphold the principles of their oath and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.

He advised the legislators to take time to learn the workings of the House, stressing that effective representation requires diligence, humility, and respect for parliamentary procedure.

With the swearing-in of the two MPs, Parliament now has its full membership, ensuring that all constituencies across the country are duly represented in the Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
