Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the government has received more than 115,000 applications for the National Apprenticeship Programme a flagship initiative designed to tackle youth unemployment through hands-on skills training.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series held in Accra on Monday, August 4, 2025, the Minister highlighted the widespread enthusiasm for the programme, noting that applications were submitted from every district across the country.

“The response from young people has been overwhelming. Receiving over 115,000 applications at the district level shows that the youth are eager for practical skills that can lead to decent employment,” Mr. Opare Addo said.

He explained that the programme is part of the broader Ghana Jobs and Skills Project and is designed to equip young Ghanaians with real-world experience in various trades and crafts.

Implemented in partnership with master craftsmen, industry stakeholders, and accredited training institutions, the National Apprenticeship Programme aims to foster sustainable employment opportunities and promote self-reliance among Ghana’s youth.
