NPP Youth Wing to March on September 23 Over Alleged Police Intimidation of Party Executives

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has declared its intention to hold a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in opposition to what it claims is state-backed intimidation by the Ghana Police Service targeting some of its members.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.

This decision comes in the wake of the remand of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe — popularly known as Abronye DC — by an Accra Circuit Court. The court ordered that he remain in police custody for two weeks to give prosecutors additional time to advance their investigations.

Abronye DC was initially arrested on Monday, September 8, on allegations of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace,” according to police. He has been in custody since his arrest.

Reacting to the matter, Salam Mustapha posted on Facebook: “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”

In a related development, the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako — widely known as Chairman Wontumi — is also under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. Several other party members have reportedly been arrested on different occasions in connection with separate cases.

According to the youth wing’s leadership, the planned protest is expected to attract a large turnout of NPP supporters. They maintain that the demonstration is part of their resolve to challenge what they view as politically driven actions by state agencies.
