NPP Acting Chairman Urges Flagbearer Aspirants to Put Party First

The Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Danquah Smith Butey, has appealed to flagbearer aspirants to prioritize the collective interest of the party over personal ambition as the NPP prepares to select its presidential candidate.

The Peace Pact, signed by the five aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026, is intended to foster discipline, tolerance, and cohesion within the party as it undertakes a crucial internal democratic exercise ahead of the national elections.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Butey emphasized the importance of unity before, during, and after the primaries. “As we campaign, let us put the party’s interest ahead of self-interest. The executives of the party are committed to this and will not allow anyone to destroy the work of this committee,” he said.

He commended the committee overseeing the process but acknowledged that more effort is needed to secure lasting peace. According to him, the party must remain united throughout the campaign, on voting day, and beyond.

Mr. Butey also urged the eventual winner of the contest to make deliberate efforts to bring the other aspirants together in the interest of victory in the next general election. “I think that any of the five who emerges as the winner should try as much as possible to bring the four together to move the party forward, as we all desire,” he added.
