Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed that over 41,647 students have successfully completed their registration on the No Fee Stress portal, which was launched to facilitate the absorption of admission and facility user fees for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions.
Providing an update on his Facebook page on May 21, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that 57,327 students have accessed the portal since its launch, with thousands already finalizing their registration.
The Presidential Spokesperson emphasized that submitting registration details is a necessary step in obtaining banking information to enable reimbursements for first-year students who have already paid their fees.
“We know that some students have paid their admission fees, we will refund it to them,” he stated during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament earlier this year.
He also urged all first-year students to register on the portal to validate enrolment lists submitted by public tertiary institutions, ensuring the proper disbursement of funds.
A Commitment to Accessible Higher Education
Launched on April 30, 2025, the No Fee Stress Portal was developed to support first-year students by allowing them to apply for financial assistance through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF). The initiative was designed to ease the financial burden on students and parents, ensuring that admission fees do not become a barrier to higher education.
According to page 6 of the Youth Manifesto titled “The Pledge: The John Mahama 2024 Pledge to Young People,” the programme was outlined as a policy aimed at alleviating financial strain on students. The document states: “We will implement a no-fees stress programme to alleviate the financial burden on parents and students in financing tertiary education. We will implement a ‘No Academic Fees’ policy at the university for level 100 students.”
During his vetting on January 20, 2025, Haruna Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the policy, stating that funds had been allocated in the maiden budget to refund fees paid by students.
“The Minister of Finance-designate, Dr Ato Forson, if approved, will provide an amount of GHC345 million to cater for the refund of fees,” he disclosed.
How Students Can Apply for Fee Absorption
To apply for financial support under the No Fee Stress Portal, first-year students must visit the official government website: or . Applicants are required to provide their Ghana Card Identification number, telephone number, and student ID.
Additionally, students must verify their identity through the National Identification Authority (NIA) by taking a selfie on the CAPTURE PAGE, ensuring that funds are allocated to the correct beneficiaries.
With over 40,000 students now successfully registered, the government remains optimistic that the initiative will expand financial access and ease the burden of tuition fees. Officials continue to urge all eligible students to register before the deadline to benefit from the programme.
As Ghana’s higher education sector embraces digital financial solutions, the No Fee Stress initiative stands as a step toward equitable access to tertiary education, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder academic progress for first-year students.
