NHIA Disburses GH¢267.67m to Health Facilities

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has disbursed an additional GH¢267.67 million to health facilities across the country, reinforcing the government’s pledge to ensure financial sustainability in the health sector.

This significant release, authorised by NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare-Bampoe, settles verified claims submitted by service providers up to April 2025. The amount is part of a broader effort that has seen over GH¢1.5 billion paid by the Authority over the past seven months.

According to figures from the NHIA, public health institutions received GH¢120,700,932.62, accounting for 45 per cent of the total payout. Private facilities were allocated GH¢100,210,906.44 (37 per cent), while mission-based health centres got GH¢46,761,808.96, representing 17 per cent.

The latest payment demonstrates NHIA’s commitment to its mandate of reimbursing health facilities for services covered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), which includes more than 95 per cent of disease conditions and a comprehensive list of over 550 medicines.

Officials say the prompt payments regime introduced earlier this year has enabled health facilities to operate without delays or accumulated debts, ensuring continuity in service delivery. The NHIA has pledged to uphold this approach for the rest of the year and beyond.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025, Dr Victor Asare-Bampoe noted:

“This disbursement reflects our collective effort to maintain a robust healthcare system. We are proud to play our role in resourcing service providers nationwide.”
