NACOC Cracks Down on Drug Trade in Budumburam

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intensified its nationwide campaign against drug trafficking and abuse with a major operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities in the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.

The exercise, carried out on Friday, 16 January 2026, led to the seizure of several illicit drugs and the arrest of individuals suspected to be involved in the trade.

Among those apprehended was a 32-year-old woman, Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother.” Opinion leaders in the community described her as a key figure in the local drug trade who had previously evaded arrest. NACOC officials confirmed that she had long been on the radar of the Commission’s intelligence and surveillance team due to her alleged involvement in trafficking various illicit substances.

During the raid, NACOC seized quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, along with items believed to be linked to drug peddling activities. The Commission also noted that several complaints had been received from residents about the nefarious activities of suspects now in custody.

The Director of Operations at NACOC assured the public that all suspects arrested during the exercise will be processed for court in accordance with the law. He further emphasized NACOC’s commitment to ensuring that Ghana becomes a drug-free nation.

Observers say the Budumburam operation underscores NACOC’s determination to dismantle drug networks and restore public confidence in communities affected by narcotics-related crime.
