The Minority in Parliament has reaffirmed its commitment to constitutionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights as Ghana celebrates its 69th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement released today, the caucus paid tribute to the men and women whose sacrifices secured Ghana’s freedom in 1957, while warning that the promise of independence remains unfulfilled for many citizens, particularly the youth.
“The promise of independence will only be fulfilled when every Ghanaian — especially our youth — enjoys dignity through opportunity, purpose in labour and a meaningful contribution to our sovereign story,” the statement declared.
The Minority criticized what it described as complacency and abuse of power under the current administration, pledging to remain a fearless check on government excesses. It vowed to hold leaders accountable, defend the rights of citizens, and advocate for a just and prosperous Ghana.
The caucus also highlighted pressing national concerns, including the plight of farmers, illegal mining, maritime security, and youth unemployment. It called for urgent government action to restore fairness in agricultural pricing, strengthen coastal surveillance, and protect Ghana’s natural heritage from environmental destruction.
“May God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong,” the statement concluded, echoing the patriotic invocation of the national anthem.
