Minister of Health Engages Pfizer and Ernest Chemist Ghana on Pharmaceutical Growth

The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has received a high-level delegation from Pfizer as part of discussions on the Accord program, a global initiative aimed at strengthening healthcare systems and expanding access to medicines.

In a separate engagement, the Minister also met with the management team of Ernest Chemist Ghana Ltd, one of the country’s leading indigenous pharmaceutical companies. The meeting highlighted the company’s contributions to local drug manufacturing and its role in advancing Ghana’s self-reliance in healthcare.

These strategic interactions underscore government’s commitment to positioning Ghana as a pharmaceutical hub in West Africa. The initiative aligns with President John Mahama’s vision of building a robust pharmaceutical industry that not only serves domestic needs but also supports regional supply chains.

Minister Akandoh emphasized that partnerships with global leaders like Pfizer, alongside the empowerment of indigenous firms such as Ernest Chemist, are critical to achieving this vision. He noted that the dual approach of international collaboration and local capacity-building will ensure sustainable growth in the sector.

The engagements mark a significant step toward enhancing Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and fostering innovation in the pharmaceutical industry.
