Mahama Urges Diaspora Unity Against Colonial Legacies

President John Mahama has urged a purposeful consolidation of the African diaspora to confront entrenched colonial-era mentalities.

He explained that such unity would serve as a strategic counter to centuries of subjugation, reclaiming agency and influence.

This appeal was delivered at the Diaspora Summit 2025, hosted at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Speaking before an audience of diaspora representatives and key stakeholders, Mahama pressed participants to dismantle destructive narratives and embrace a renewed framework built on collective resilience.

“Anything in this life, one strength of his power will no longer work. And that is true of slaves. It is true of stories, especially ones that are complete fabrications,” he declared, cautioning against dependence on outdated systems and fabricated histories.

Issuing a bold directive for strategic reclamation, he added:

“Let’s take the narrative of those who oppressed us and work it. In fact, let’s take their entire modus operandi, flip it and reverse it.”

At the heart of his message was a rallying call to surpass those who engineered division.

“So I urge you, my brothers and sisters, let’s be more intentional about our unity than they were about our division,” he concluded.
