Mahama Nominates Fiscal Council Members to Strengthen Oversight

 President John Dramani Mahama has nominated five distinguished professionals to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council, a body mandated to enhance fiscal discipline and guide sound public financial management.

The nominations, announced on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, were made pursuant to Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).

Heading the Council is Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, appointed as Chairperson. He will be joined by Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming, representing academia; Leslie Dwight Mensah, from a research think tank; J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance; and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.

According to the Presidency, the Fiscal Council will play a pivotal role in strengthening financial oversight, promoting fiscal prudence, and shaping decisions that safeguard Ghana’s economic stability.
