Interior Minister Urges Immigration Command Synergy to Tackle Evolving Threats

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed‑Mubarak, has called on Regional and Sector Commanders of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to strengthen coordination and professionalism in addressing evolving migration and security challenges.

Speaking at the GIS Regional Commanders’ Conference at the Centre of Excellence in Odorkor, the Minister stressed that no security institution can function effectively in isolation. He underscored that strong command synergy is essential for operational success, institutional discipline, accountability, and sustainable growth.

The conference, themed “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth”, comes at a time of rising irregular migration, human trafficking, transnational crime, terrorism, and cyber‑enabled threats. Hon. Muntaka commended the Comptroller‑General and GIS Management for prioritizing staff welfare, logistics enhancement, and infrastructure development, describing these as critical to building a motivated and well‑equipped workforce.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to equipping the Service with improved operational capabilities and better working conditions, while expressing appreciation to officers and men of the GIS for their sacrifices in safeguarding Ghana’s borders and contributing to national peace and development.

The Minister charged commanders to lead with integrity, fairness, and discipline, and to use the platform to share experiences and develop practical solutions for the Service.

The three‑day conference will feature presentations on strategic leadership, command and control, strategic management and finance, disciplinary procedures under L.I. 2245, and 360‑degree leadership.

Delivering his welcome address, Comptroller‑General Samuel Basintale Amadu emphasized that discipline remains critical to operational success, noting that Regional and Sector Commanders play a pivotal role in the effective management of border security.
