Immigration Officer Murder: CID Reveals Gruesome Details Following Suspect’s Arrest

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has revealed disturbing details surrounding the gruesome murder of a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer, Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was discovered on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Stephen King Amoah, aged 38, a Ghana Immigration Service officer, was last seen alive on July 3, 2025, departing Ashongman Estate to meet a friend regarding a debt repayment. He was reported missing the next day. His severely burned body was discovered on July 9 in a gutter near GBC Satellite, opposite Comet Estate, Accra.
Despite the burns, relatives positively identified the remains at the Police Hospital morgue investigators believe the meeting was set up through WhatsApp messages featuring bundles of cash, sent by Bright Aweh (also known as Robert or Highest Bright), who invited Amoah to a location in Ashongman Estate.
COP Donkor mentioned at the recent development that ” Bright Aweh was arrested on suspicion of involvement. During interrogation, he admitted giving Amoah GH¢500,000, allegedly instructing him to pay off debts with part and hold the remainder”
She also added “He failed to provide a credible explanation for the source of the funds and offered contradictory accounts.
According to the investigation he was Initially charged with kidnapping, Aweh was later formally charged with murder after forensic results linked human blood to items in his residence.
Court proceedings began at the Kaneshie District Court on July 25, 2025, where he was remanded to reappear on August 8, 2025.
At a press briefing on August 4, 2025, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director-General of CID, revealed key forensic discoveries.Blood-stained evidence found in Aweh’s living room and a camouflage fabric, sprayed walls, and a burnt wooden carpet.A fufu pestle wrapped in plastic and stained with blood was retrieved approximately 100 meters from the suspect’s house.The suspect’s vehicle also contained blood traces.
Laboratory tests confirmed the stains were human blood, and DNA samples from the victim’s mother and son were submitted to definitively link the evidence to Amoah .
COP Donkor emphasized that the suspect was re-arrested and charged with murder, and that a special task force is working to identify and arrest potential accomplices
