The High Court in Amasaman has turned down a bail request submitted by the legal representatives of Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely recognized as Nana Agradaa, as her appeal remains under review.
Dr. Bernard Kofi Asamoah, a member of her defense team, confirmed the court’s decision in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM on Tuesday, July 15. He noted that the court declined to approve bail and instructed the Circuit Court to provide all relevant documents concerning the appeal proceedings.
“We wanted bail pending appeal, and the court did not grant it. The court has given an order that the Circuit Court furnish the court with all the processes needed for the appeal. We will continue the appeal process,” Dr. Asamoah stated.
This development comes after Nana Agradaa’s attorneys moved to contest her recent sentencing. On July 3, the evangelist and former spiritualist was handed a 15-year prison term by the Circuit Court, led by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, following her conviction for fraud and promoting deceptive practices.
Her legal team has since lodged an appeal, claiming the trial was biased and the verdict flawed. On July 7, lead attorney Richard Asare Baffour disclosed that a formal application had been filed with the High Court, seeking to reverse both the conviction and the prison sentence.
Although the bail denial poses a challenge, Nana Agradaa’s lawyers affirm their dedication to pursuing the appeal through the proper judicial procedures.
