The Ghana Education Service (GES) has disclosed that the Government of Ghana has successfully settled all outstanding payments related to the Capitation Grant for public basic schools, covering the period from 2023 to the present.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 23, the GES emphasized that the payment underscores the government’s strong dedication to ensuring the efficient operation and sound administration of basic education nationwide.
The Capitation Grant serves as a vital financial lifeline for public basic schools, supporting the acquisition of instructional materials, routine maintenance, and other key activities that enhance school-level management. Prompt release of the grant allows headteachers to manage their schools with increased independence and deliver high-quality education more effectively.
The GES expressed appreciation to both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance for prioritizing the disbursement of the grant, despite prevailing economic pressures.
It also lauded school administrators for their patience and commitment in maintaining continuous teaching and learning during the period of delayed funding.
“We urge all school leaders to use the funds responsibly and in line with the guidelines for the utilisation of the Capitation Grant,” the statement read.
The GES further noted that district and regional oversight teams will step up monitoring efforts to ensure transparency and value for money in the use of the funds reaffirming its mission,
