Government to Launch ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’ Poultry Programme in October

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, has announced that the government will roll out the Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative in the first week of October, after its earlier postponement from July.

According to him, the delay was necessary to allow for wider engagement with key players in the poultry industry, many of whom had expressed concerns about insufficient consultation.

The programme, billed as a flagship intervention, is designed to reduce Ghana’s heavy reliance on poultry imports, which currently cost the nation over $300 million annually.

Speaking in Accra at the launch of the second phase of the West Africa Livestock Marketing Programme (PACBAO), Mr. Opoku assured poultry farmers that the revised date would be met.

“Preparations are well advanced, and by the first week of October, His Excellency the President will formally inaugurate the programme. Lists of beneficiaries are being finalised, procurement is complete, and distribution will commence immediately afterwards,” he stated.

The Nkoko Nkitinkiti initiative is expected to revitalise the local poultry sector by providing farmers with superior breeds and essential resources to boost production.

Government officials believe the project will help reduce imports, generate employment, and enhance food security nationwide.
