Government Secures Major DSTV Price Relief for Ghanaian Households

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation has announced a landmark agreement with MultiChoice Africa to ease the financial burden of pay-TV services on Ghanaian households. Following extensive stakeholder engagement, DSTV subscribers in Ghana will now enjoy between 33% and 50% more value on their subscriptions beginning October 1, 2025.

At a press briefing, the Director of Innovations, Mr. Emmanuel Okori, alongside MultiChoice Africa CEO Fulu Badugela and National Communications Authority (NCA) Director General Edmond Pianku Yerenchi, confirmed the details.

Under the new arrangement, each bouquet will be automatically upgraded to the next higher package. For instance, subscribers paying GHS 59 for the Padi bouquet will now access the Access package valued at GHS 99, while those on the Family bouquet will enjoy live football through the Compact package—representing a 50% increase in value.

Government hailed the deal as a “victory for the Ghanaian people,” noting that MultiChoice exceeded the initial request for a 30% relief.

In addition, decoder kits will be sold at half price to encourage new sign-ups. Authorities also pledged a crackdown on cross-border piracy involving Nigerian DSTV boxes, which have long undermined Ghana’s tax revenues and local content ecosystem.

“This is about fairness, national interest, and easing the burden on Ghanaian households,” the Minister affirmed.

With more channels for less, the initiative is expected to reshape Ghana’s pay-TV market and provide timely relief for households ahead of the festive season.
